Broad programme of study
The Spanish and French national curricula, for example, provide students with a broad programme of study, a strong knowledge base and high academic standards. The new Spanish curriculum heightens the importance of skills and abilities and stresses the need to help all individuals develop their talents to the full, while maintaining its traditional strengths. There will also be new system of external examinations to ensure good quality academic performance and consistency of standards. The French curriculum, meanwhile, has long been respected for its high standards and academic rigour, and the system is closely controlled by the French authorities and the inspectorate.
The UK curriculum is broad, balanced and flexible. Key focuses include the development of understanding and skills through practical experiences which relate closely to real-life situations. As with the French and Spanish curricula, external examinations ensure consistency of standards and contribute towards the raising of national standards. The schools are regularly and rigorously inspected.
In addition to the national curriculum of their respective countries, many of our schools offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and are therefore known as “IB World Schools”. The International Baccalaureate is a fully-rounded qualification which is made up of three programmes: Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme, for students from ages 3 to 19. The IB curriculum is founded on breadth and depth: there are six subject areas, together with a core of Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Action, Service, and an extended essay. In each area, there is a great emphasis on independent learning and research, interdisciplinary studies, and internationalism. The programme is recognised by top world universities and provides students with a thorough grounding for excellent achievement in higher education.
